Winter Wrapping: 12th Man Steelhead Flies!

A more classic colored "12th man" fly from long time buddy Evan Burck

Winter wrapping has lead to some more Seahawks inspired steelhead flies, especially after their great game against the Redskins.  I love the color schemes that blue and green put together, as do the steels.  Two of my buddies from the 206 both posted their bad ass "12th man" steelhead flies on the FB, and I had to share them here.  Evan's fly up above is a little bit of a throwback to the classic Steve Largent steelhead colors, where Sean's fly below is as new school as Skittles, with rubber legs coming out the backside.  Thanks for your great wraps guys, and go Hawks!  If you wrap up a Seahawks steelhead fly before this Sunday's game against the falcons and can send me a picture, I'll send you some EvoAngler's stickers.

Another one from my vise, go hawks!

Rhymes from Dr. A.

Good friend and client Dr. John sent this gem to me last week, which was a welcomed relief to a class of jacked up 6th graders who were still fired up from winter break.  John and his buddies are Bogey house regulars, and great anglers that bring a fun element like few others can.  Once I read it I knew that I finally had the right post to accompany the great shirt pictured above that he busted out for dinner last year.  And as you can tell John is a believer in the flash fly.

From Dr. John:

OK......full composition dedicated to upcoming OP the tune of   'Ain't Misbehavin' ...

Who will I swing with out on the Hoh
    Who to toss bling with
I guess I can not know,
    So I'll go glopping
    Slopping my YARNIES alone

My hands are frozen, my toes are too
    I see my pecker
    Is turning blue.
    Pissing ice crystals,
    What am I to do?

    Where'd my guide go?
    I wish he'd show
    Need some hot tea
    Melt this ice pee
    Hot soup's worth waiting for,
        Believe me!

Winter Steelhead Trip with Lateral Line Media

Steelhead Fly Fishing Trip: Olympic Peninsula Washington from Joey Macomber on Vimeo.

If you are thinking about winter steelhead non-stop this time of year like I am, and want to go on the best trip that doesn't involve flying in a helicopter to the Dean, I would contact Joey Macomber right now!  He has two spots left on his annual trip to the Bogey House on the Olympic Peninsula, home to the best steelhead I have ever caught.  If there is any possible way to make a trip to the Bogey house better than the sick steelhead, BFA's next level food (understatement) and the excellent guides, it is to go when the Macomber group shows up.  Always one of the best groups I get to guide each year not only do they know how to have a good time, they always bring Santa, the ultimate in steelhead mojo!  check out Joey's site here, and I promise if you pull the trigger on this week, you wont regret it.

2012 year in review

Lots to be excited about in 2012!
2012 was a great year. I celebrated my 10th year of guiding by running more guide trips this year than I ever have. I began guiding on February 19th for winter steelhead and finished up on October 21st. During that time I got the opportunity to fish with a ton of great people and make a ton of new memories. It would take far more words than you would read to recap the season, so here are my favorite pics from the best guide season yet!  Thank you to my wife, outfitters and all of the great clients and friends who made this my best guide season yet!

Best shot I got all year.  Here's to a great 2013!
