Delayed Report: Team Jergens/Weekend Warrior Crushfest '10

This is about a month late, but better late than never.  Dave showed up on the 13th of June with hopes of salmonflies on the Bighole, and I was able to arrange work and take a few days off to fish for 5 days.  We started out our adventure in Big Hole canyon, and made quick work of a bunch of nice browns while bobber fishing.  The weather started out nice, but by lunch time it was looking a bit nasty to the west.  After turning down Dave's advice to eat while it was nice out, we ended up getting crushed by rain for the majority of the afternoon.  Fishing continued to be good, and it was obvious that Salmonflies were on the verge of popping, a day away at the latest.  But, the rain continued, and by the next day, the Hole had jumped from 4000 CFS to nearly 10000.  Every salmonfly was now completely submered, so we spent day two in the rain on the upper beav, and made plans to spend the next two days on the Mo.
Serious hail on the Big Hole.

Dave with a nice one on the Upper Beav.

After the Beav we ran up to the Mo, and after a rough first day had some really good fishing on day 2.  When you go up to the Mo there are 2 places you have to go to, Headhunters and Izaaks.  Headhunters is an awesome fly shop with a great bug selection and not alot of bullshit like 40 different casting blouses.  Izaak's is right next door and has some excellent food, and a ton of incredible anglers hanging out there every night.

After 2 days on the Mo we came back to Twin and spent another day on the Beav.  Fishing was good and it was a nice way to end the week.  It's amazing how fast trips like this go by.  Dave is off to Hawaii in the fall, so I guess our next adventure may be chasing some giant bonefish around.

  1. Big Bones in the flats around Oahu! Believe it. I just got my Xi3 in the mail so I'm ready!
